SUMMARY:FieldDesign: Community Forests and Environmental Justice
DESCRIPTION:FieldDesign: Community Forests and Environmental Justice\nWednesday\, February 15\, 2023\, 4 PM to 6 PM \nTuesday\, February 28\, 4 PM to 6 PM \nAttention WA State Formal 6-12 Educators!\nHow do you engage students in authentic\, relevant engineering design projects? Join Pacific Education Institute in an online\,   multi-day workshop to help you scaffold real-world challenges related to trees where you live. Community forests play an important role in addressing environmental justice – growing tree canopy where it is most needed is the goal! Learn ways to    explore trees as natural design tools for growing climate resilience and improving human and environmental health within your school campuses\, towns\, and cities. Participants will use PEI’s FieldDesign Guide and Project Learning Tree: Discover Your Urban Forest to brainstorm engineering problems and prepare to support students through the design sequence steps. \n  \nThe workshop will be a blended experience including two online Zoom sessions and self-paced learning: \n\nSynchronous Session 1: Overview of the FieldDesign process as it relates to trees in your community (using PLT: Discover Your Urban Forest)\, Wednesday\, February 15\, 2023\, 4pm-6pm (2 hours)\nAsynchronous Task: Practice identifying problems and brainstorming solutions (Approximately 2 hours – detailed instructions will be provided on February 15)\nSynchronous Session 2: Exploration of local partnerships and collaborative planning\, led by your regional PEI FieldSTEM Coordinator\, Tuesday\, February 28\, 2023\, 4 pm-6pm (2 hours)\n\nParticipants who attend both sessions and complete all associated work will receive 6 Washington state approved STEM clock hours. \nNote: There will be an opportunity to earn a $100 implementation stipend. Details will be provided at the workshop. \nRegister Here! \n  \n
