DESCRIPTION:Explore the Salish Sea Curriculum\nSaturday\, January 14 2023 | 4 PM to 6 PM\n  \nAttention All Washington State Formal K-12 Educators\nPrepare your students to dive into place-based\, hands-on learning with the Explore the Salish Sea Curriculum! \n*Learn how to navigate and customize this resource to meet your learning goals \n*Experience the wonder of engineering to investigate a real-world problem in a sample lesson \n*Expand your NGSS understanding \n*Meet community partners who can support your students’ authentic research project \n*Lesson planning time will be provided \n  \nSample Unit: Ocean Tech \nExperience the process of engineering to design and build a remotely operated vehicle (R.O.V.)! The moon is more explored than the ocean\, and that includes the Salish Sea. Where it is inconvenient or even impossible for people to go\, we can engineer technology to go there for us\, like the Mars Rovers\, space probes\, automatic unmanned vehicles\, drones\, and in this unit\, ROV’s. Ocean Tech dives into the engineering process\, empowering kids to figure out the laws of motion and become a team of physical\, mechanical\, and electrical engineers working together to achieve a student-driven mission. \nParticipants who attend the whole session will receive: 6 Washington State approved STEM Clock Hours\n  \nThis is an IN-PERSON workshop\, held in Anacortes. DESCRIPTION:2023 Youth Engaged in Sustainable Systems (YESS)\n District Interest Session 1 \nSeptember 20\, 2022\, 10 AM to 11 AM \nCost: Free \nJoin PEI’s Green Jobs Coordinator\, Heather Spalding\, to learn more about the Youth Engaged in Sustainable Systems (YESS) Program.  \nThe YESS Program model is grounded in collaboration between PEI\, school districts\, skill centers\, and local natural resource organizations as part of the Career Connect Washington system. YESS high school participants earn summer school credit while building their job skills and exploring careers in natural resources. Over their five to six weeks in the program\, students’ classroom time is paired with hands-on service activities at community partner sites. PEI FieldSTEM Coordinators will mentor those wanting to offer in-person workshops\, and support development and marketing for their first few workshops! \nPlease note: Participants have the option to purchase a physical copy of the guide for an additional $30 in the form below. Participants will learn about the Solutions Oriented Learning Storyline format\, designed around six guiding principles: Indigenous perspectives\, local anchoring phenomena\, culturally responsive instructional practices\, NGSS three-dimensional student growth measures\, and a solutions-oriented approach to addressing coastal hazards\, and opportunities to elevate student voices in their communities. \nThis in-person opportunity will be held at the Billy Frank Jr. Nisqually Wildlife Refuge in Olympia.* This opportunity is for formal K-12 educators from the following schools and districts: \n\nSteilacoom\, Bethel\, Clover Park\, Wa He Lut Indian School\nPlus all school districts in the ESD 113 region\n\nParticipants who attend the entire session will receive: \n\n6 Washington State approved STEM Clock Hours \nThe opportunity to earn a $200 implementation stipend\n\n*Additional location details to follow via email for those who register.
