Go from categorizing types of questions to planning and carrying out an investigation. Then use your data as evidence to construct arguments and explanations. By using the field investigation process outlined in the guide\, students are given the opportunity to be scientists collecting real-world data while contributing to their understanding of natural systems. \nThis workshop is designed to help formal K-12 educators change science instruction to meet the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) particularly 3-Dimensional instruction. \nParticipants will: \n\nCategorize types of field investigation questions\nCarry out a comparative field investigation\nAnalyze data\nConstruct an arguments/explanations from data collected using Claim\, Evidence\, Reasoning\nReflect on the NGSS 3-dimension instruction and 5 E-learning cycle in the lessons\nExplore field investigation resources\nPlan a field investigation to conduct with their own students\n\nEducators who successfully complete this workshop will receive 6 Washington State Approved STEM Clock Hours—at no charge! \nEligible educators have the opportunity to earn a $100 stipend (details given at workshop—registration is required). \nCost: Thanks to the generous support from our partners there is no cost for educators to attend. \nRegister today!

We will create performance tasks as instructional tools that integrate science and English Language Arts. The focus will be to explicitly practice the research and writing standards that are part of the ELA Common Core expectations. \nParticipants will: \n\nFocus on research methodologies\, finding reputable sources\, and best-practices\nLink performance task content to regional environmental\, agricultural and natural resource sectors\nDevelop and write your own performance task with guidance from PEI faculty and peers\nBe eligible to receive $150 participation stipend\n\nEducators that develop and implement a performance task will be eligible for an additional $150 implementation stipend!
