2024 FieldSTEM Spring Introduction Series

Join us for our Spring FieldSTEM Introduction Workshops! 

 

You are invited to participate in the following FieldSTEM opportunities to support implementation in your school or district. We are offering the online professional learning opportunities below to introduce you to FieldSTEM or broaden your understanding and to inspire you to engage your colleagues. Participants will receive 2 Washington State approved STEM clock hours for each workshop fully attended. You may attend any combination of workshops that interest you.

 

Introduction to Designing High Impact Field Experiences for K-12

Wednesday, February 7, 4 PM to 6 PM (2 STEM Clock Hours)
Join PEI for an introduction to our FieldSTEM Integrated Learning Model focusing on the use of FieldSTEM in designing high quality, impactful field experiences for your students. 

 

Introduction to ELA Performance Tasks for K-12

Tuesday, February 13, 4 PM to 6 PM (2 STEM Clock Hours)

Experience how ELA performance tasks can be used to teach both science and literacy standards. Explore PEI’s collection of performance tasks as you determine which will fit best into your program and instruction.  

 

Introduction to Field Investigations for K-12

Thursday, February 22, 4 PM to 6 PM  (2 STEM Clock Hours)

Join us for two-hour session for an overview of Field Investigations and the types of investigative questions, how to build field investigations from student questions, and how to wrap up the investigation with C-E-R. Participants will receive a list of topic-based ideas for field investigations that can be conducted on campus.

 

Fostering Outdoor Observation Skills K-12 Educators (FOOS)

Tuesday, February 27, 4 PM to 6 PM (2 STEM Clock Hours)

Join PEI to learn how students can hone observation skills using multiple senses. Explore ways of engaging outdoor learning in your lessons, focusing on science notebooks as powerful science literacy tools.  

 

Civic Engagement for K-12

Wednesday, March 6, 4 PM to 6 PM (2 STEM Clock Hours)

Join us for an Introduction to FieldSTEM and Civic Engagement! Explore strategies, tools, and platforms to elevate student voice and support youth who want to take action in their communities. 

 

FieldDesign for K-12

Wednesday, March 13, 4 PM to 6 PM (2 STEM Clock Hours)

Join PEI for an introduction to FieldDesign – a field-based engineering design framework that develops students’ ability to think critically and problem-solve through hands-on, locally relevant activities. 

 

Thursday, March 21, 4 PM to 6 PM (2 STEM Clock Hours)

Explore PEI’s Math Performance Task topics, which engage students in math practices with relevant, scenario-based, career connected challenges. 

 

Asynchronous Introduction to FieldSTEM Course

Please note this is not a 1 day workshop – This self guided course worth 6 STEM Credits
Access to course materials starts: Thursday, February 1 & All work must be completed by: April 7th
This is an asynchronous course for educators who are interested in incorporating outdoor, place-based learning into their classrooms. Participants will learn how the FieldSTEM model can support integrating content with local issues.
