The purpose of this task is to give students the opportunity to use mathematics in real-world applications. In this task, students are introduced to the ongoing problem of affordable housing faced by community builders and city and state planners nationwide. Students are presented with a collection of representations of homes and people. Students discuss questions we can ask and answer using this data. They will use strategies to organize information and discover how many more people are there than homes.
