FieldSTEM Statewide Leadership Institute
March 7, 2018 - March 9, 2018
The Pacific Education Institute (PEI), with support from the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI), Washington State School Directors Association (WSSDA), Washington Association of School Administrators (WASA) and Association of Washington School Principals (AWSP) is reshaping the conversation surrounding STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) to include sectors critical to State’s economy: natural resources, agriculture and environmental sciences, we call our model FieldSTEM.
PEI’s FieldSTEM model is career connected, locally relevant, integrated, field-based learning experiences designed to advance science literacy and inspire balanced decision making for a sustainable future. It is a process that employs language and math skills and an understanding of social and natural systems to implement locally relevant science and engineering practices outdoors. Districts across the state are currently using our model to effectively meet state standards while helping students engage in real questions, problems, issues, and opportunities in their communities.
Special guests include:
Nancy Skerritt, Faculty, PEI
Dr. Pam Farr, Director of Teaching & Learning, Shelton School District
Ron Sisson, Director of Principal Support and Elementary Programs, AWSP
Helene Paroff, Assistant Executive Director, WASA
Jessica Vavrus, Deputy Executive Director & Government Relations, WSSDA
We invite Administrators, including Principals and Curriculum Directors, to participate in the FieldSTEM Leadership Institute to experience the type of learning and educational practice embedded in the model. The agenda will include a needs assessment, implementation planning, and networking time. Participation at the Institute includes follow-up opportunities, professional development for additional administrators and teacher leadership teams at regional institutes in June 2018.
