Solutions Oriented Learning Storylines: Forest Management and Skills
Attention Middle School and High School Educators!
Join Pacific Education Institute Faculty, Michelle Townshend and Randy James, for this online overview of PEI’s Solutions Oriented Learning Fire: Forest Management Storyline. Stevens County Conservation District Education Coordinator, Dana Bowers, will provide asynchronous content supporting forestry skills aligned with FFA forestry competition guidelines.*
Fire has been used by humans throughout history to modify our environment, particularly forests, for human benefit. Over time, the management of forests has changed and the result is an increase in catastrophic wildfires. This workshop explores the use of fire as a forest management tool to improve the health of forests and decrease catastrophic fires and the role fire plays in climate change. Resulting forestry careers are great opportunities for students who want to work outdoors.
Participants will receive:
- Tools to practice compass work and tree identification skills
- Tree identification guide
- Access to instructional videos
- 9 Washington State approved STEM clock hours*
*Educators are expected to participate in 6 hours of online work as well as complete 3 hours of independent work.
