Salmon Outside! Taking Student Learning Outdoors via the Web
Attention Formal and Nonformal Educators in Central Washington!*
Join Tiffany Bishop from the Yakima Basin Environmental Education Program and Emily Smith from the Mid-Columbia Fisheries Enhancement Group in this immersive online experience.
Learn more about salmon, the connection between our watershed and the Pacific Ocean, and how these resources are impacted by a changing climate. The sponsors and participants will work together to craft accessible and meaningful field-based experiences in a distance learning environment. Gain skills and confidence to help students get the most out of home-based and field-based learning, and build interdisciplinary learning opportunities affectionately known as “meaningful watershed education experiences” (MWEE’s).
The four online workshops in this series are:
- August 4 | Adapt a MWEE: Making the most of the “New Normal” in education systems
- August 6 | Salmon In and Out of the Classroom: Ideas for sparking salmon learning away from the tank
- August 11 | Community Huddle: Collectively, we can bring meaningful watershed experiences to all students
- August 13 | Walking in With a MWEE: Sponsors will help you walk away with a fully-formed field experience to use with students this year
Participants may attend one, some or all the online workshops.
Eligible workshop participants can earn 6 Washington State approved STEM clock hours!
*Please Note: this workshop is geared toward educators within the Columbia River and Yakima watersheds (Central Washington Region).
