Tree Farmers & Teachers: Using Family Forests for Student Field Experiences

Workshop Information for Teachers

Family-owned forests grow trees for our wood products, contribute to clean water and provide wildlife habitat and recreational opportunities. They are also the perfect place for an outdoor classroom!

Join Pat Otto and Denise Buck from the Pacific Education Institute in a workshop designed to help teachers gain knowledge, skills, and tools to take students on a meaningful, high-impact field experience to their local family-owned tree farms.This workshop will utilize Project Learning Tree materials to assist creating pre, post, and on- site lessons that make the field experience an integrated part of your curriculum.Tree Farmers – as community partners – will be joining us for the day sharing their knowledge and passion and learning how they can assist teachers in creating an impactful experience for students.

Teachers will receive:

  • Hands-on experience with lessons to make a Tree Farm experience a success

  • Project Learning Tree (PLT) PreK-8 Activity Guide or PLT Focus on Forests Guide

  • Student Journal examples

  • 6 Washington State Clock Hours – at no charge!

  • Formal K-12 Teachers can earn a $75 stipend (Details provided at the workshop).

Please dress for the weather as we will be visiting and doing lessons at a tree farm.

Join Pat Otto and Denise Buck from the Pacific Education Institute in a workshop designed to bring tree farmers and teachers together to gain the knowledge, skills, and tools needed to create meaningful, high-impact field experiences at local, family-owned tree farms.

This workshop will utilize Project Learning Tree (PLT) materials to assist creating pre, post, and on-site lessons that make the field experience an integrated part of a teacher’s curriculum – deepening the impact.

We hope you will be a part of this day, share your knowledge and passion and help teachers impart the importance of family-owned tree farms to the next generation.
