Community Based Organizations and Supporting NGSS

You are invited! Register here.

Community-based organizations like your provide valuable educational experiences to the public. Many students do not benefit from these experiences due to lack of funding, access, or awareness. As nonformal educators, you have learning opportunities for students which are place-based, and offer real-world science, technology, engineering and math experiences. As often happens in education, the academic and curricular alignment to state and national standards leaves little room for outdoor, educational experiences.

In this two-hour online event, Megan Rivard, FieldSTEM Coordinator with the Pacific Education Institute, and Cari Haug, Regional Science Coordinator with the North Central Educational Service District, are teaming up to connect your educational experiences directly to the classroom! You and fellow community-based organizations in our region will come together to learn about the current science standards. You will then have an opportunity to connect your knowledge, experience and assets to the community, especially to our K-8 students.

We will work together to align your offerings with the state and national standards. We will use that data to build an educator-accessible database of your educational experiences that increase awareness, access and potential funding opportunities. Together, we will create ways for students to develop a sense of place and connection to their community, the natural world, and the careers that help protect it.
