Carefully Designed Professional Development

(1) Attend a Washington PLT workshop.

PLT’s professional development helps educators learn to integrate environmental education into their teaching and become comfortable teaching outdoors —in urban, suburban, and rural environments. Formal and nonformal educators will learn how Project Learning Tree instructional materials can be used to engage students with critical, locally relevant environmental issues.

Trainings include workshops, in-service days, group cohorts, and multi-day institutes. These professional learning experiences are planned and facilitated by Pacific Education Institute, standards-aligned, and tailored for unique grade levels, topics, and learning scenarios. Educators will:

  • explore novel strategies for teaching environmental concepts.
  • identify approaches to environmental education anchored in place, community, and culturally responsive teaching.
  • learn how to incorporate PLT into lesson planning and curricular design.
  • receive free PLT curriculum materials.
  • earn WA State clock hours.

To learn about upcoming PLT workshops hosted by PEI, please contact Washington PLT Coordinator Lara Tukarski at [email protected] or visit the PEI Program Calendar.

(2) Partner with PEI to design a PLT training for your school.

PEI offers training to help you support integration of PLT into your school program and classroom curriculum. We offer virtual and in-person professional development opportunities which can be tailored to your grade level or audience.

Please contact Washington PLT Coordinator Lara Tukarski at [email protected] to learn more about PLT training opportunities for your school.

(3) Become a certified PLT workshop facilitator.

Project Learning Tree workshop facilitators design and implement educator professional development training experiences infused with the knowledge, skills, experience, and resources to become comfortable incorporating PLT activities into classrooms and programs. Pacific Education Institute provides WA state educators interested in becoming PLT facilitators with training in skills, tools, and techniques helpful in designing and implementing their own professional learning training experiences. PEI also provides ongoing resources, mentorship, and program support for facilitators within the Washington PLT network.
