Field Investigations & NGSS
June 22, 2017 @ 9:00 am - 3:30 pm
FreeWant your students to apply their science practices outdoors?
Join Pat Otto and Mike Nepean for an exciting workshop that explores field investigations. Go from categorizing types of questions to planning and carrying out an investigation. Then use your data as evidence to construct arguments and explanations. By using the field investigation process outlined in the guide, students are given the opportunity to be scientists collecting real-world data while contributing to their understanding of natural systems.
This workshop is designed to help formal K-12 educators change science instruction to meet the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) particularly 3-Dimensional instruction.
Participants will:
- Categorize types of field investigation questions
- Carry out a comparative field investigation
- Analyze data
- Construct an arguments/explanations from data collected using Claim, Evidence, Reasoning
- Reflect on the NGSS 3-dimension instruction and 5 E-learning cycle in the lessons
- Explore field investigation resources
- Plan a field investigation to conduct with their own students
Educators who successfully complete this workshop will receive 6 Washington State Approved STEM Clock Hours—at no charge!
Eligible educators have the opportunity to earn a $100 stipend (details given at workshop—registration is required).
Cost: Thanks to the generous support from our partners there is no cost for educators to attend.
