Eastern Washington: Creating Connections Through Performance Tasks

June 18, 2018 @ 9:00 am - June 20, 2018 @ 3:30 pm

Are you looking for a new way to introduce a science unit?

Do you have a need for a performance task that hasn’t been written yet?

Do you have a field experience that needs a solid “pre-lesson”?

Join Nancy Skerritt, PEI Faculty, and Mike Nepean, Eastern Washington FieldSTEM Coordinator, for a 2.5-day workshop that will support educators in creating real-world, compelling connections to science for students. We will create performance tasks as instructional tools that integrate science and English Language Arts. The focus will be to explicitly practice the research and writing standards that are part of the ELA Common Core expectations.

Participants will:

  • Focus on research methodologies, finding reputable sources, and best practices
  • Link performance task content to regional environmental, agricultural and natural resource sectors
  • Develop and write your own performance task with guidance from PEI faculty and peers
  • Be eligible to receive $150 participation stipend

Educators that develop and implement a performance task will be eligible for an additional $150 implementation stipend!

Participants will receive 15 Washington State Approved Clock Hours—at no cost!
