Designed for students in grades 3-5, Energy in Ecosystems investigates the ways in which organisms depend on each other to survive and thrive. Students focus on forests—one of the largest and most complex types of ecosystems—and come to understand some of the interactions present in all ecosystems. In doing so, they learn to appreciate the natural systems on which we depend.

Most importantly, activities are:

• Constructed around – rather than simply correlated to – targeted performance expectations of the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS).

• Aligned with the Common Core State Standards for English Language Arts and Math

• Aligned with the College, Career, and Civic Life (C3) Framework for Social Studies

• Organized around the 5E Instructional Model – engage, explore, explain, elaborate, and evaluate.

Participants will receive:

  • In-person training

  • The PLT E-unit Energy in Ecosystems

  • 6 Washington State Approved STEM Clock Hours

  • Planning time

Please come dressed for the weather and bring your own lunch.

Please note: it is very important for participants to bring a laptop to this workshop.

Audience: Formal Educators K-12
