FieldSTEM: Meaningful Math Performance Tasks

Attention formal Washington state K-12 educators!

During the course of this workshop, participants will experience PEI Math Performance Task topics that engage students with relevant, scenario-based, career connected challenges. These tasks aim to broaden outdoor life experiences and deepen connection to scientific thinking through the lens of mathematics.

These *brand new* PEI Math Performance Tasks follow the Smarter Balanced performance task sequence, and are designed to be implemented in classroom settings to provide students the opportunity to explore real-world, Washington State examples.

PEI Math Performance Tasks reinforce student understanding through observation and application of mathematical skills for problem solving. Students’ learning is also extended by various sources and potential field investigations aligned with the NGSS embedded in the common core math practices.

We are specifically looking for educators willing to implement and provide feedback on these Math Performance Tasks. Educators who register should expect to provide feedback to support the process of moving these Math Performance Tasks to the next phase of publication.

Participants who attend, complete the three hour virtual workshop, and provide feedback will receive:

• $50 participation stipend
• 3 Washington State Approved STEM clock hours

There is an opportunity to earn an additional $75 implementation stipend. Details provided at workshop.
