Healthy Ocean, Healthy You (Online Ocean Science Workshop)

Join PEI and the Olympic Coast National Marine Sanctuary for a three-day online exploration of the benefits of our oceans. This workshop for formal K-12 educators will expand on the ideas presented in a new, upcoming ELA performance task for grades 4-6, “Ocean Benefits.”

We will look at economics, habitat, and recreation, and how healthy oceans support all of these, which in turn helps to keep us healthy. (Ocean Literacy Principle #6: The Ocean and Humans are Inextricably Connected.)  This workshop will be hosted on the Go-To* platform and will include synchronous and asynchronous components (including some pre-work due before the workshop.)

At this workshop you can expect to:

• spend some time outside conducting a field investigation
• learn from members of the community about their connection to the ocean
• spend some time planning how you will integrate this new material into your Ocean Science Program

Upon completion, you will receive:

• 10 STEM Clock Hours
• $150 participation stipend
